Opening range — Trading Glossary

The high and low of the first stretch of the trading session — on US30, usually the first hour after the 9:30 New York open. Stops collect just beyond it.

Mark it from candles that start at the open: on most US30 charts the 9:00 one-hour candle includes 30 minutes of pre-market, so the 9:30 and 10:00 thirty-minute candles give the true first hour.

Also called: opening ranges, first hour range, opening hour range.
